June 2004 saw the publication of the second issue of All Out Cricket. On page 14 of that dusty relic, you would have found a new writer making his debut from the ranks of county cricket. The then-Northamptonshire off-spinner, Graeme Swann, had agreed to produce a monthly diary about life on the treadmill. Now, we knew he was a bit of a card, a bit unconventional. Then we read his entry for Saturday April 24 revealing in great detail his dream about Uma Thurman in yellow leathers. We soon realised that Swanny would be doing things his way.
Eventually, of course, England realised it too. But no matter how big and crazy the story would become, Swanny always found time for AOC. So when we approached him to be our latest guest editor, following Darren Gough, David Lloyd and David Gower, he didn't hold back. And this is what we got: When he's not taking his clothes off in the name of art he's either revealing his ten favourite spinners, interviewing his musical heroes, answering your readers questions, taking the mick out of his team-mates or, for one month only, resurrecting his diary. Welcome folks, to the Swanny Issue.
And then there's this little lot: We've a fascinating interview with England's captain-elect Alastair Cook; we chat to Ajmal Shahzad and compare his chances with the other new-ball pretenders around the England team; we check out the sharpest new computer game on the market; stump Craig Kieswetter with ten utterly stupid questions; send two AOC staffers off to suffer the joys of online flirting; analyse why the IPL doesn't work, and last but by no means least, unearth cricket's greatest pie. Different gravy indeed'
